Commissioned Work
1920s Art Deco Sofa End Cabinets
Originally forming part of a 1920s sofa suite, this elegant pair of Art Deco end cabinets came to us showing the effects of almost a century of use.
Before restoration
A closer look at the original condition
The original finish was tired and uneven, with scratches, chips, cracks and areas of lifted and bubbled veneer. Salvageable veneer was carefully re-glued and clamped, while bubbled sections were gently flattened. More heavily damaged areas were refined and hand blended with acrylic paint to sit naturally within the surrounding timber.
Once the repairs were complete, the cabinets were stained to restore warmth, depth and richness to the wood, then finished with Osmo Polyx-Oil for a beautifully natural sheen and lasting protection.
The result is a sophisticated restoration that respects the age and individuality of the pieces while giving them a refined finish suitable for a contemporary interior. Their original Art Deco character remains at the heart of the design, enhanced rather than erased.
